Pet Travel Services in Port Coquitlam, BC
Traveling internationally with a pet requires planning well in advance. Documentation requirements, vaccination records, and health certificates can vary significantly between countries, and missing a step can result in your pet being delayed or refused entry at the border. At Tricity Animal Hospital in Port Coquitlam, we help dog and cat owners prepare for international travel with the paperwork, testing, and certificates needed to meet destination country requirements. We recommend contacting us at least eight to twelve weeks before your planned travel date.
International Health Certificate
An International Health Certificate is a government-accredited document confirming that your pet is healthy, vaccinated, and meets the health entry requirements of your destination country. We prepare and complete the certificate following a physical examination of your pet. The document must be signed by an accredited veterinarian and may also require endorsement by a government veterinary office depending on the destination. Requirements vary by country, so we recommend confirming the specific requirements for your destination well in advance of your travel date.
Microchipping for Travel
Many countries require that pets entering the country be identified by a microchip meeting ISO standard 11784 or 11785. If your pet is not yet microchipped, or if their existing chip does not meet ISO standards, we can place a compliant chip at any time. Microchipping is quick, requires no anesthetic, and provides permanent, reliable identification for your pet both at home and abroad. See our Pet Care Services page for complete information on our microchipping services.
Titer Testing for Travel
Some countries require proof of rabies immunity through titer testing rather than vaccination alone. A titer test measures the concentration of rabies antibodies in your pet's blood. Many popular travel destinations in Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand have specific titer requirements with minimum antibody levels, waiting periods, and additional documentation requirements. We perform titer testing in-house and can advise you on the timeline and documentation requirements specific to your destination country.
